Abstract EN

Arabs were very much interested in hunting since the pre- Islamic era due to the fact that they were emotionally related to the nature, in addition to the fact that hunting used to show their strength.

Poetry mirrored the atmosphere of hunting to the smallest details and writers tackled the construction of this subject in their letters.

Letters of hunting had witnessed an important development since its first steps which were made by Abdul Hameed Al Katib ( 132 before Hijra) Letters of hunting are of two types: The first one tackles preys and birds ; these letters are royal ones issued from Al -Diwan and they deal with one task which is describing the silent nature and the animals used in hunting like horses , dogs , panthers , eagles , and shaheen falcon Moreover , these letters describe hunted animals like deer , foxes and rabbits The second type of letters are dedicated to describe a specific type of birds known as the ( birds of duty ) by using small balls similar to hazelnut made of mud , or lead .

This type was presented by Al -Sabi ( 384) during the fourth century of Hijra And they were very common and famous during the Abbasid period and Mamluk period Shihab Aldeen alhalabi ( 725) was one of the prominent writers in this field Such letters were randomly planned according to the wishes of the writer And they even differ in their beginnings , lengths and conclusions But they tend to concentrate on the type of the hazelnut balls .

This paper examines these two types starting from the beginning which was characterized by its simplicity, romanticism, and the avoidance of linguistic ornamentation devices During the Amawi and Abbasid periods And the period when such letters became popular and known for its exaggeration, pompous expressions and following the writing traditions of the first Mamluk period.
