This paper discusses the emergence of Arabic phonetic terminology in terms of the environment in which it originated, since terminology is the basis of any scientific discipline.

It also tackles the nature of the phonetic terminology as conceived by ancient Arab linguists and tajweed scholars, particularly regarding sound aspects, where linguists and tajweed scholars had sometimes convergent and other time divergent standards in the use of phonetic terms.
