After the prohibition of the use of force and international intervention in the internal affairs of States under the Charter of the United Nations.

The preventive self-defense has become one of the reasons that are used by certain States to justify their military interventions in other States.

This article examines the concept of preventive self-defense and its legitimacy in international law and International relations.

In this regard, international jurisprudence is divided into supporters and opponents of the legitimacy of preventive defense, although the prevailing trend stresses its illegality but international practice testifies its use in many cases.

This will make it a customary rule of public international law.

If this happens, the world will face a significant increase in the use of armed force and interference in states’ affairs which lead to the collapse of international peace and security.
