Abstract EN

For a long period of time, jail has been a place where people are kept until they receive their physical punishment, through time this kind of punishment where replaced by imprisonment, this changed the role of jail, which became a place where a person is kept in custody for a certain period of time as a punishment of a crime he committed.

Most countries use imprisonment as a method of punishment, which create a problem of overloaded prisons and recidivism of prisoners, to face this issue, all legislators including Algerian legislator are trying to find new methods to punish crimes and reduce recidivism at the same time, one of this methods is conditional freedom, that allows the prisoner to reduce the period of time he is spending in jail and to return to society before the end of his condemnation, the prisoner will receive this favour only if he respect a number of conditions which are imposed in order to keep him from going back to crime.
