Although the terms "antonymy "and " opposition" have the same root in the Arabic language, they have major difference in terms of meaning, scope, value, characteristics, class, usage and everything that has to do with semantic scopes.

every term has a specific linguistic value, something which many researchers in the field, particularly students fail to grasp.

There is a widespread belief a among those that"antonymy " and "opposition" have the same meaning in Arabic .

In view sheer misunderstanding surrounding the two terms, the present research seeks to clear the confusion by highlighting a clear-cut distinction between the two terms with similar roots and different meaning.
