This study deals with the problem of selecting researchers qualified to teach Arabic at the French universities for the last three years.
It aims, basically, to detect some gloomy sides in assessment of candidates’ files.
Concealment and ambiguity are the rulers in this matter.
These two rulers, control totally the issue, and candidates can never know the exact reason of their failure even if they submit an application for hundred times.
When the researchers insist on having any justification for the rejection of their application, they commonly receive a mysterious answer saying the same thing for each unsuccessful candidate: « Not able for scientific research.
» This reply, in fact, provoke unhappiness and hopelessness among candidates.
A very afflictive image matching with the reality of teaching Arabic at the French Universities.
The contribution we are proposing at present (in two parts) is regarded as a required reply to incite anyone concerned by employment of qualified researchers in Arabic departments at French universities and examination of their files, to a great extent of equal opportunities and transparency.
A lot of skilled candidates are actually complaining about this kind of condition.
To apprehend this modest study (in its first part), we have followed different methods of observation (perception) and analytical description by using questionnaires, testimony (a witness can give evidence) and non rated (non codified) interviews.
The sample contains 6 candidates, 9 students (from different levels including 3 students who have left Arabic division for ever) and 3 teachers.
In directive interviews (face to face or by phone), we orally put different questions and note all the answers.
We also give questionnaires (in hand or by mails) and allow the person concerned by the survey to read questions and answer himself.
Testimony is commonly direct.
It is a kind of free interview.
One can feel free to increase his answer without exiting out of the general focus.
We put the question and let everybody talk about his personal experience.
We don’t interfere in the reply just for helping to make words more clear or to persuade when we feel that the person is embarrassed in expressing sensitive positions
