Abstract EN
Back ground: coronary artery disease is now frequently encountered in young adult population.
However, being a relatively uncommon entity, no many studies are available in this regard.
There for the present study was designed to evaluate the clinical characteristic, risk factor and in hospital outcome in patients less than 45 years of age with myocardial infarction as compare them to patient older than 45 years old.
Method: a total of (115) patients who admitted to the cardiac care unit in Marjan teaching hospital from April 2011 to November 2011.
Were included in this study.
The patients were divided into two groups on the bases of age.
First group included patients 45 years of age or younger, while the second group included patients older than 45 years of age.
Both groups were compared with respect to gender, body mass index, risk factors, hospital outcome.
Result: of the total (115) patients ,24(20.9%) were <45 years old and 91(79.l%) were older than 45 years old.
there were significant difference in two groups with respect to gender ,male gender 21(87.5%)in patients younger than 45 years old versus 61(67.0%) in older age group, while female gender 3(12.5%) versus 30(33.0%) in older age group, p -value 0.00l.
Conclusion: the present study suggests that there are differences in MI depend on gender, male gender are more in younger age group.
As a risk factor hyperlipidemia and smoking are more common in young patient while hypertension and diabetes mellitus are more common in older patient.
About complications prevalence of heart failure was higher in older patients while young group have low morbidity and mortality.
More common ECG changes in young age group are anterior lesion.
inferior and extensive ECG lesions are more common in older age group.
