English Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of Internal Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR) practices at health institutions on Employees' Engagement based on Social Exchange Theory (SET).

Specifically, it investigates the impact of six internal corporate social responsibility practices namely, health and safety, education, training and development, workplace diversity, work life balance, human rights, compensation and benefits on employees' engagement.

The researcher used a descriptive analytical approach with cross sectional design in the forms of proportional stratified random sampling.

The suggested model was tested on a sample of 305 nurses working at the major government hospitals in Gaza Strip namely (European Gaza Hospital, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, Al-shifa medical complex, Nasser medical complex) by using a structured questionnaire.

After testing of some hypothetical relationships between internal social responsibility and employee engagement, this research revealed that all the relationships were significant.

Furthermore, it shows that internal corporate social responsibility practices are not highly adopted within the major government hospitals in Gaza Strip.

And there is one practice of internal corporate social responsibility which is compensation and benefits is less adopted compare with others of internal corporate social responsibility practices.

Additionally it shows that employee engagement is adopted at a moderate level within these hospitals where Nasser Medical Complex received the highest percentage of internal corporate social responsibility practices and employee engagement, while Al-Aqsa martyrs hospital received the lowest level of internal social responsibility practices and employee engagement, and only two dimensions of internal corporate social responsibility, namely education, training and development and compensation and benefits could predict employees‟ Engagement.

The researcher recommended that more training should be given to nurses in order to improve their knowledge, skills and attitude to effectively and efficiently perform well in their delegated work.

Compensation and benefits should be put in place in order to fully satisfy different nurses on their different needs in order to increase the nurses‟ job engagement.
