Depuis sa formation, le mouvement syndical Algérien a milité pour l’égalité entre les travailleurs Algérien et Européens, et la défense des intérêts matériels et moraux de tous les travailleurs et contre le racisme.
La lutte syndicale en Algérie dans le contexte colonial a été inséparable de la lutte pour la cause nationale et contre le colonialisme.
L’U.G.T.A.
a jouée un rôle effectif dans la vie économique et politique pendant la guerre de libération sous l’égide du F.L.N., et depuis 1962 elle vit en crise, jusqu’à 1990 et la formation de nouvel syndicats autonomes.
