تعد معرفة تأثير العوامل الشخصية على إنتاجية البحث العلمي لدى أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية و معوقات ذلك ضرورة لترشيد الجهود المبذولة لتحسين الإنتاجية البحثية في مؤسسات التعليم العالي.
غير أن الدراسات السابقة تناولت في معظمها أثر العوامل الشخصية على الإنتاجية البحثية لأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية، و لم تهتم كثيرا بدراسة تأثير العوامل نفسها على التوجهات و النوايا البحثية لهم و معوقات البحث العلمي من وجهة نظرهم.
لذا، قامت هذه الدراسة بتحليل أثر الجنس، و العمر، و الجنسية، و الرتبة الأكاديمية، و الخبرة الأكاديمية، و مجال التخصص الأكاديمي، و الوقت المنفق في البحث العلمي، و الوقت المنفق في التدريس في توجهات و نوايا و إنتاجية و معوقات البحث العلمي لدى أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية بجامعة الكويت.
و أوضحت نتائج الدراسة أنه برغم أن أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية لديهم توجهات إيجابية نحو البحث العلمي و عندهم عزم قوي للانغماس في أنشطة بحثية مستقبلية فإن إنتاجيتهم البحثية خلال السنوات الثلاث الماضية كانت نسبيا منخفضة.
كما أفاد أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية بأن الانشغال الدائم بأنشطة غير بحثية، و عدم توافر الحوافز الملائمة، و ندرة الموارد اللازمة للبحث من أهم معوقات البحث العلمي.
و أوضحت نتائج الدراسة أيضاً أن مجال التخصص الأكاديمي، و الوقت المنفق في البحث، و الوقت المنفق في التدريس، و الرتبة الأكاديمية من أهم العوامل الشخصية تأثيرا على توجهات و نوايا و إنتاجية و معوقات البحث العلمي لدى أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية.
و قد تمثل هذه النتائج أساسا ملائما لاقتراح سياسات تهدف إلى تحسين الإنتاج العلمي في جامعة الكويت و غيرها من الجامعات المماثلة.
Abstract EN
Knowing what individual characteristics influence research performance and perceived research barriers are essential to guiding research productivity improvement efforts in academia.
While most, if not all, of the studies on faculty research productivity have explored the influence of individual characteristics on research behavior, almost none has examined the influence of these characteristics on research attitudes, intentions, and perceived research barriers.
This study explored the influence of gender, age, nationality, academic rank, experience, academic field, and time spent on research and teaching on research attitudes, intentions, behaviors, and barriers at Kuwait University (KU).
Although the faculty hold positive attitudes toward research and intend to engage in future research, their research productivity is relatively low.
They also believe that engaging in research impeding activities, lack of extrinsic motivators, and lack of research resources challenge research performance.
Although the individual characteristics variably influence research attitudes, intentions, behaviors, and perceived barriers, academic field, time spent on research, time spent on teaching, and academic rank are the most influential characteristics.
These results should serve as a foundation for articulating scholarly productivity improving policies at KU and other similar HE institutions.
