This study tackles the concept of description as a speech technique of announcing where the addresser tries to affect the addressee by using certain features per se.

Every description event has a pragmatic purpose behind it.

Types of Description 1 .

Simple Description: it designates a single-sentence description, having a short sentence that contains some minor descriptive composites.

Complex Description: it refers to an entire descriptive segment that consists of a number of connected sentences that contain a series of complementary descriptions.

Both types may have some influence upon the receiver.

They do not only describe a phenomenon, an event, or a person.

They have, moreover, a pragmatic dimension implied in the selection and sequence of expressions, giving prominence to some details other than others.

In his covenant, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib provides an illustration of the urban society particularizing certain groups with features and characteristics that he urges his alderman to consider when dealing with those classes.

This study is in pursuit of the pragmatic meaning of these descriptive segments: why the Imam emphasizes some other than others, why is this sequence of ideas and expressions, and what are the benefits of those descriptions for the individual and society? In addition, the study will state the reasons behind the use of those descriptive techniques.
