The Algerian resident population has increased from 10.236 million inhabitants in 1962 to 41.2 million inhabitantsl on 1 January 2017 and can exceed according to the UN the 48 million inhabitants in the year 2030.

It is unequally distributed over the national territory and concentrates very predominantly in the north of the country where most of the national economic potential is located in this region, in the south of the country, it is rare except in some Saharan cities, to that, adds a differentiated demographic pressure not yet mastered to date.

After the decline in mortality, fertility, the decline in marriage, the increase in life expectancy and the change in the structure of the population characterized by the decline in the active population or demographic dividend (fringe of 15 -60 years) and the increase of the dependent population (classes of less than 15 years and more than 60 years), we can say that Algeria is currently in a phase of demographic transition which means the passage of a traditional regime of demographic balance with high mortality and birth rates towards a modern system of demographic equilibrium with low mortality and birth rates.

In the face of demographic pressure and the sharp fall in oil revenues, Algeria must take immediate steps to respond to a growing social demand to ensure by 2030 the social well-being of the country, population in housing, employment, education, health and standard of living.|
