Abstract EN

This study deals with selected examples of the expressions used for measures and weights in two parts: theoretical and practical.

The theoretical part consists of two main sections, the first of which is a lexical study of measures while the second is a lexical study of weights.

The practical part consists of a morphological study of measures and weights.

The study concludes by arriving at a set of important findings: 1- This research has shown that several languages have been used in naming measures and weights.

2- This research has shown that there is a great diversity among scholars with regards to the linguistic origins of these measures and weights and their lexical meanings, and with regards to the justification of using the particular names given.

3- This research has also illustrated the morphological forms of measures and weights and the multiplicity of their plural forms.
