Abstract EN

The study deals with automated library systems compatibility challenges in Arab public libraries: OS PMB ILS as a case study.

The methodology of the study combined between the mathematical used through BFuzzy LogicB depending on a refereed content analysis tool.

The study aims at calculating the compatibility degree of PMB system with the compatibility criteria of automated systems for the arab public libraries, which are divided into three main groups.

First, standard formats such as the compatibility with AACR2, ISBD, MARC, XML, Dublin Core, FRBR, and RDA.

Second, criteria of interoperability protocol such as the compatibility with Z39.50, OAI-PMH, LDAP, and SIP2 protocol.

Third, authority Control criteria such as the compatibility with MARC authority records format.

Result indicated that the degree of compatibility of PMB V4.2.14 system in light of “Evaluation Standards of automated systems for the arab public libraries”, using BFuzzy LogicB was equal to 0.39.

The study recommended solving problems and errors in the PMB V4.2.14 system before using it in Arab public libraries, because the practical test of the system showed errors in import or export of bibliographic records and Authority files which contain Arabic characters.
