Abstract EN

To reduce the cost of pesticides application and minimize their hazardous effects on human and its environment, the current study evaluated one of safe behavioral control tools depended on previous investigations in this field.

To assess the repel activity of six colors beside one uncolour as control against three of the most important insects of stored grain, two of them were primary, Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricious) ,Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and the third was secondary infestation Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), experiments were carried out to perfrm this purpose.

The obtained results revealed that lesser grain borer, R.

dominica greatly preferred the black color and bitterly repulsed the white color.

For S.

oryzae, the black color was the most attractive while the white one had the highest repellent affection values of 7.62 and 84.62 at 84 hour, respectively.

In contrast, the black color harbored high numbers of T.

castaneum compared to the other treatments.

On the other side, the test insects avoided the red colour with number of zero after 24 h of choice.

Moreover, results presented that white and blue colors had the highest percent of inhibition against R.

dominica with reduction percentages values of 84.8 and 80.43%, respectively.

Similarly, the white and yellow colors among the tested six colors, caused 85.7 and 92.16% reduction in F1 progeny of S.

oryzae, respectively.

For T.

castaneum, red and yellow colors achieved the most percent of reduction of 83.81 and 67.67 in F1 progeny with lowest emerged adults (3.67 and 7.33), respectively.

Therefore, our study can be recommended these colours as safe alternatives to chemical insecticides, where colored stacks become considerable tool in integrated pest management programs after further studies to sure these findings.
