Chlorophorus varius (coleoptera: cerambycidae)‎ in apple Orchards in Egypt

The population fluctuation of dominant and economically important boring insect pest Chlorophorus varius (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), attacking apple trees was monitored at Nobaria district, Behera governorate during the two successive years 2016 and 2017.

varius beetles activity averaged for 6.5 – 7.5 months from early or late April to late October or early November.

Three peaks of the beetle flight were recorded in June, July and September 2016, but four peaks were in 2017 during May, June, August and September.

Summer months recorded the maximum flight (1.12 - 1.41 beetles), followed by spring (0.50 - 0.56 beetle), then autumn (0.12 – 0.28 beetle) /tree, and stopped during winter.

The total numbers per year were 1.74 – 2.25 beetles / tree ,and it had only one brood.

Effect of weather factors on C.

varius activity was mostly positively significant with day maximum, day minimum, and day mean temperatures but negatively and insignificantly with day mean relative humidity.

Infestation was rapidly doubled during only one year (1.74 to 3.99 beetles) thus needed urgent integrated control.
