Abstract EN

It can be argued that popular poetry and literal poetry in Algeria at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century is a rebellious poetry as a whole, rising to the rank of poetry so called committed and advocating resistance as an ideal instrument against the French colonizer who has steadily continued through his overwhelming reign to practice the well known motto divide and rule better.

The artistic experience of the poet sheikh Mohammad Benyakoub fits into this context but without forgetting that our poet is and remains a storyteller or a narrator of the two sides of beauty; sensory and divine religious in his tender youth.

According to one of the poets’ grandsons, sheikh Benyakoub bequeathed to his posterity a multitude of poems, several verses of which became proverbs
