The paper presents a brief background about group work and its nature.
The overall aim of the paper is to find out whether or not the group work is an effective method in English language teaching in the department of English in the College of Arts, University of Kufa, and also, why teachers use group work in the curriculum? A questionnaire is used to collect data.
Ten questions are presented and the participated student has four answers to pick from, he can choose from answers such as agree, strongly agree, disagree, and strongly disagree.
The results showed that female students prefer group work more than male students.
The concept of group work is an effective method in the department of English language, in the College of Arts
