Abstract EN

It is well known that Islamic law preceded all contemporary laws and legislations that stipulated the necessity of animal welfare and the preservation of its rights.

The texts in the Qur’an and Sunnah were frequent, but the question remains about the fact that these texts are applied on the ground in Islamic societies through different stages of history.

Does animal welfare become a practice, or it is still just a theory? This contribution will try to explain how Muslims have taken care of animal rights, as well as some aspects of animal affinity practices in the Maghreb society in the Middle Ages based on the few references that were scattered in the sources, especially in the books of Fiqh and agriculture, which show the practices that Maghreb’s people are doing to preserve the rights of animals.
