The United States has developed a new policy on the Maghreb to include it in its strategic policy for the region.

This is due to the wealth of the great Maghreb with various natural resources, mainly oil and gas, and to this end, a series of projects have been developed in the form of initiatives to activate its policy in the Maghreb countries.

The Stuart Ainizenstat initiative is a living example of the early US interest for the Maghreb after the collapse of the Soviet Union and to abolish the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Free Trade in the Greater Maghreb.
