Abstract EN

The region of Aurès was occupated by French in 1844 after the fall of Constantine in 1837.

In similar line of the occupation and expansion, there were attempts to settle in which the colonial authorities exploited state property and tribal property...to achieve this with the help of tribal leaders and officers of the Arab offices.

In the face of attempts to achieve further settlement, the tribal system under which the Aurasien social movement was proceeding prevented it from being able to do so.

Prior to these obstacles, the application of the Presbyterian law in the region as early as 1863, as well as the Warney Act and a series of decrees and laws, were another means of dismantling the tribal system and enabling the settlers to land further.

We will try through the content of this intervention to expose these different points by going back to a number of published and unpublished French archival documents and trying to deduce the effects that this left on the structure of Aurasien society during this period.
