This research studies and analyzes the story of "I dreamt" for Naguib Mahfouz that was formed on a symbolic basis and was full of symbols all through .

The most important finding of research is that the story with its seventeen stories represents a wide symbol of Mahfouz knowledge journey from birth till death.

It is a choice of openness to unstopped and unlimited knowledge.

In the framework of this interpretation, each one of these seventeen dreams is a station of this journey.

Thus, the first dream is a symbol of one of these journey stages; "Birth stage".

The seventeen dream is a symbol of reaching the journey end and voluntarily surrendering to death.

Between these two stations, there are fifteen stations of confronting and seeking knowledge.
