Baghdad was the capital of the entire Muslim world and a place of the Abbasid caliphate.

It became a distinctive city among the other cities, such as Basra, Wasit, Fustat, Damascus and Cordoba.

It was an international city that gained international status.

It was inhabited by elements of different races and sects, Moslems and non-Moslems, alongside the Arabs, such as the Indians, Persians, Franks and others.

Not only were these people living in Baghdad, they contributed to their culture, art and science.

So, Baghdad has become distinguished in science, culture, industry, arts and other fields of life.

The construction of Baghdad has several reasons, especially the security ones.

This city has received a great attention from its founder, the Caliph al-Mansur (136-158 AH / 753-774 AD).

This attention is reflected in the increase of its fortifications, gates, fences and trenches, which secured the Abbasid Caliph al-Mansur and his followers and provided them with a great deal of security, which was the main concern after the uprising of Al-Rawandiya.

The city have received his attention and even his direct supervision on its construction, so it was built and fortified in accordance with his vision to secure it in all respects.Despite the hardships and disasters that have plagued the city, it has remained, with its various characteristics, the focus of admiration and attention of everyone who saw it.
