Gender reassignment is a phenomenon that has spread dramatically in recent years, and gender affirming surgery in foreign countries has been initiated as a kind of medical treatment for the cases that require it.

However, this perspective has changed in the western world where converting the person’s gender has become a basic human right and it was regulated by different legislations in such countries.

Thanks to the widespread of the Internet and the social media networks, which turned the world into a small village, this phenomenon began to invade Arab societies.

As a result, the UAE legislator issued the Decree Law No.

4 of 2016 on medical liability which distinguished between: gender reassignment as a punishable criminal offense, and gender reassignmentfor the purpose of correction as a permissible act.

This study deals with and analyses the regulations concerning transgender surgery in the UAE.

In the first section of this study I explained the definition of transgender, while in the second section I examined the different legal theories of gender reassignment followed by concluding remarks and recommendations.
