Abstract EN

This study was conducted with the aim of evaluate the percentage of microbiological contamination of groundwater sources in the Zawia area.

The data were collected from the records of the Central Laboratory for Water Analysis in Zawia during the years (2013, 2015, 2016, 2019).

The study included (119) samples taken from different groundwater sources in the region.

Of the groundwater sources examined, (53.78%) were contaminated and (46.22%) were non-polluted.

The most important bacterial species isolated belong to the group of coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli and faecal Streptococci.

Microbiological contamination of groundwater sources in the region is attributed to the leakage of wastewater containing human waste to the groundwater sources
