Abstract EN

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age.

This study was designed to explore the clinical utility of humoral components of the immune system as a predictive of cardiovascular risk in PCOS patients.

Women with PCOS (n =52) were recruited from Kamal AL-Samaraee Hospital.17 healthy, age-matched female volunteers were recruited as control subjects.

We measured serum immunoglobulin (IgG,IgA,IgM), complement(C3,C4) concentrations in both groups.

Results: Compared with controls, women with PCOS had significant increase (p<0.05) in C3(147.630±42.557vs.

54.611±14.177mg/dL),C4 (30.382± 12.549vs.15.741±4.917mg/dL),IgG (1011.811±310.347vs.746.788±210.311mg/dL),IgA(250.100±104.467vs.

140.311±6.783mg/dL), and IgM(194.700±81.976 vs.

126.023±32.103mg/dL) levels.

C3 of patients group showed positive significant correlation with C4(r=0.311,p=0.025) and IgM(r=0.276,p=0.047).

IgG positively correlated with IgA(r=0.358,p=0.009) and with testosterone(r=0.275, p=0.047), also IgM showed positive correlation with C3/C4.

Conclusion: increase circulating Immunoglobulin and complement component might serve as a signal for the presence of an immune response that may increase cardiovascular risk in PCOS patients.
