The Algerian constituent power has embodied the bicameral model for the first time in the amended and accomplished constitution of 1996.

therefore, the legislative power is exercised by a parliament composed of two chambers: the national people's assembly composed of 462 deputies and the the 144-member nation council also provided the parliament with full sovereignty over the preparation and voting of laws, as well as the control of government action throughmechanisms provided by the constitution.

however, the finding of the constitutional textsaffirms an imbalancebetween the two chambers namely the increasedretreat of the second chamber, whichdominateduntil the revision of the constitution in 2016 and the attribution of new prerogatives to the council of the nation.
