Intertextuality emerges as an existing cognitive achievement of exchange of ideas.

The importance of intertextuality lies in that it is related to the essence and body of the text increasing its originality and richness.

Thus there are two texts: the hypertext, under immediate sense, and the hypotext, stored in memory, which increases the semantic dimensions of the text.

It accumulates in the text indications during the ages that are intertwined with its immediate significance increasing its richness.

Thus discourse connects the present with the past, the individual with the group, and immediacy with historicity.

This research depends on an approach that focuses on the structural and the denotative aspects.

The relationship between the signifier and the signified is the main point in the exchange between the two texts that serves to identify the relationship between them and discover the methods of literary writing based on the researcher's reading, embracing and reproducing a previous text and trying to answer the question of how Yawmiyyât dâbit fî al-aryâf (Diary of a Police Officer in the Countryside, 1998) by Hamdi alBatran is related to Yawmiyyât na'ib fî al-aryâf (The diary of a deputy public prosecutor in the countryside, 1937) by Tawfiq alHakim.

What are manifestations, mechanisms and tools of intertextuality between the two novels? The two novels are examined to find out the most important aspects of intertextuality between them on two levels: Level I - external units (paratext).

Level II - internal units (intertextuality).
