Abstract EN

The folk siyar are one of the most ancient narrative forms known since the dawn of history among all peoples.

The most ancient of all are those stories found on the walls of the temples, in the Pharaonic manuscripts, as well as 'Antar al-'Absi folk sirat, and other stories of the pre-Islamic era.

Ali al-Zaibaq folk sirat is one of these stories often told by narrators since the fifth century AH until the end of the nineteenth century AD, when a manuscript of this Sira was found.

The folk siyar are different from other forms of narration.

They are an endless text, with no known beginning and no definite end.

This narrative tradition was prevalent until the beginning of the last century, and each folk sirat was told by a group of narrators who were called poets at the time, e.g.

the poets of Abu Zeid Al Hilali folk sirat and the poets of Al-Zahir Beibars folk sirat...

etc.

The folk siyar of heroes were dominant until the Mamluk era, and then in the later eras there were folk siyar of thieves and bandits, which influenced the public awareness of the traditional image of the hero.

Ali al-Zaibaq is one of the most famous thieves and bandits in the world of folk siyar.

Ali al-Zaibaq folk sirat was told by the narrators in various Arab countries before it settled in Egypt under the name The Egyptian Ali al-Zaibaq.

The main focus of this paper is to draw a compare the narrative mechanisms in the historical sources about this folk sirat, the narratives of folk poets, and Ali al-Zaibaq folk sirat written by Al-Kamel Al-Hafiz Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Masri.
