Abstract EN

Energy and its various sources are key foundations of contemporary civilization.

The discovery of different sources of energy has been the main factor behind most human advancement.

This is true of the discovery of oil and gas, and its contribution to the lives we now lead.

Therefore, possessing energy resources, developing areas of energy production and securing transportation are key factors in determining a country’s strength and its status in the international arena.

This vital role of energy in the rise of a country is clearly manifested in India, which has today become an emerging power in international relations.

India is making significant progress, has a steadily growing economy, one of the world’s biggest military forces and has a rapidly growing population.

Therefore, it needs enormous supplies of energy to meet growing demands.

This poses a serious and profound challenge, resulting from the imbalance between India’s low levels of local energy production and its huge energy demand.

This has resulted in a dependence on others to supply these needs, leading to energy dilemmas and energy poverty.

As a result, India has developed a special concept of energy security to reflect its specific circumstances, it has also adopted internal and external strategies to combat energy dilemma implications, and developed policies and programs to give the largest number of Indians access to energy sources that meet their daily needs.

This is in addition to increasing energy efficiency and sustainability by regulating the consumption of energy resources and protecting the environment.

Internationally, India has adopted what is known as ‘energy diplomacy’ in order to enter new areas of international energy production, despite fierce competition from other powers, such as the US and China.

The study confirms the importance of energy factors in determining India’s strategic and economic aspirations as one of the key powers in any future multi-polar international order.

However, its internal and external strategies are still unable to achieve the goal of energy independence by 2030, as established in the plan announced by former Indian President Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.

External competition with other powers with similar aspirations is fierce.

India’s social and demographic features deepen the energy dilemma, and this requires India’s leaders and academics to develop a more clear and successful vision to respond to this challenge.
