Abstract EN

This study aims to highlight the image of the book meant as text and object in Umberto Eco’s novel The Name of the rose, in a detective approach reading.

The book seems to be par excellence, the protagonist of the story, which through the events, presents different profiles generally attributed to the whodunit intrigue.

The book, beyond being a source of knowledge, dangerously arouses the curiosity of readers, intrigues to homicide, and paradoxically becomes the prey of the reader.

In fact, following this reading approach, it seems that two characters animate the plot of the novel : the text and the reader, who through a hermeneutic relationship, the book appears as a victim of an excessive conspiracy of the reader, and from another, it is even indicted against the reader in the labyrinth of interpretations.
