Abstract EN

This paper discusses the role of the other in bringing about innovation, change, and renewal to the self and its culture and its effect on the nature of this innovation, change and renewal.

The paper tries to bring to the fore the role of the West in the developments of both Modern Korean Literature and Modern Arabic Literature, in the three stages through which the developments of the two movements went, starting with the first stage which began around the middle of the Nineteenth Century, and, then, the second stage after the end of First World War, and the third after the end of Second World War.
