Abstract EN

Libya's date growing regions are variable in their climate, which has a great effects on the quality of dates produced.

During a field surveys, which were carried out in these regions, it was found that date palm tree diseases were as follow: (1) Coastal regions, leaf smut (Graphiola phoenicis), black leaf scorch (Thielaviopsis paradoxa), Khamdj, inflorescence rot, heart rots (Mauginiella scaettae).

Leaf spots caused by Diplodia sp., and fruit rots ; (2) in the central and southern regions, disease as black or white scorch, and heart rots (off-shoots) caused by (Th.

paradoxa).

leaf spots (Diplodia sp.), and balaat disease (Phytophthora sp.) were found.

Different types of fungi were isolated from fruits such as Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus stolonifer, Saccharomyces sp., and Altemaria sp.

A group of plant-parasitic nematodes were isolated such as root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita and M.

javanica), root-lesion nematode (Pratylenchns penetrans and Pratylenchus sp.), ring nematode (Criconemella sp.) and many others were found associated with date palm rhizosphere.
