Abstract EN

A survey for pest and beneficial insects on cereal crops was conducted in different regions of Yemen during the period 1985-1990.

A hundred and fifteen insect species and 29 natural ennemies were identified.

It was found that the most harmful insects were: Spodoptera exempta W., Chillopartellus S., Sesamia cretica L., Contarinia sorghicola C., Atherigona soccata R., Diuraphis noxia (M/K)., Rhopcilosiphimi maidis F., Microtermes najdensis H., Microcerotermes diversus S., Melansphis sacchari Z., Locust migratoria L., Schisloceria gregaria F.

and Epilachna similis T.

The importance of any of these insects varied according to crop species, season and the location.

The list includes many other beneficial insects that were found on cereal crops in the republic of Yemen.
