Abstract EN
This research is a semiotic reading of iconic messages in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
These messages include poems, addresses and others .The novel communicates them through the space of writing; it transmits them through spaces, orders, word-order rhyme, rhythm etc.
The research adopts Charles Sanders Peirce's conception of the iconic sign in his theory of Semiotics.
It is concluded that Joyce’s novel communicates the iconic messages in a way that is not different from the conventional one.
