Assistant Professor, Head of Department of Historical Studies, Regional Studies Center, Mosul University.

The research dealt with the concept of identity problems in Turkey and the reasons why Turkey has moved towards European traditions and linking its political, economic and social institutions to the European Union.

The first topic focused on the Ottoman period and the reforms of the Ottoman sultans along the lines of European values.

The second topic studied the procedures of Ataturk and those after him of Turkey Westernization.

The third topic examined Turkey's attempt to join the European Union and discussed the reasons for the European rejection of these endeavors.

The research came out with a set of conclusions.
