Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to test a new indicator of human development that is more comprehensive and reflective of achievements in the field of human development.

To achieve this objective, the concept and measurement of human development has been reviewed through the human development reports issued by UNDP since 1990.

The study examined the basic options for human development (health, education and income) and the same method of calculation of the index (geometric mean) with the addition of two dimensions of freedom and employment.

The index of democracy was used as an expression of freedom, the employment-to-population ratio and the share of non-vulnerable employment in total employment subindices.

The study found a many results, the most important of which are: a fort relationship between the new dimensions (freedom and employment) and human development, the proposed human development index better reflects the concept of human development because it includes a greater increase in opportunities and choices, The decline in the HDI in Algeria shows the reduction of sub-indicators added, but this does not detract from the achievements in the basic dimensions of human development (health, education and income).
