Abstract EN

This research aims to reveal the truth of the endowment (Waqf) and to define it as a system that has been for many centuries the cornerstone of supporting the social welfare aspects that the concerned departments and sectors can not bear today.

The Waqfsystem has performed social, health, educational and other functions.

Historians of Islamic civilization have attached great importance to the endowments, which they considered the main engine, protector and feeder for all matters of life in the Islamic state.

The Islamic civilization attests to the fact that the Waqf was the backbone of schools, libraries and hospitals.

It was the backbone of social security institutions and the care of orphans, the elderly and the needy.

Its residences and institutions still witness this: the Nuria School in Damascus, Nasriyah School in Al-Andalus, Al-Adhodi Hospital in Baghdad and Al-Mansouri Hospital in Cairo.
