The profession of teaching is a delicate technical profession that require its practitioners to have a lot of competencies and skills so that their teaching will be effective.

So, modern societies have given a lot of importance for the process of training and preparing teachers since they are forming future generations.

To achieve this goal, education responsibles adopted various approaches that was eventually concluded by the competency based programme for training teachers.

So we will try in this research paper to shed the light on these programmes by giving their defintion, their historical origins, the difference between this approach and other traditional approaches.

Finally, we will talk about their main stages starting from the stage of identifying the needs to the stage of evaluation.
