Abstract EN

The purpose of this study was to develop an Arabic version of The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire OHQ (n=29 items) and its short form OHQ-s (n=8 items), and investigate its Psychometric efficiency.

In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the instrument under consideration was translated into Arabic, and administered to several samples of Syrian students (N=1909).Seven criterion measures were used .These measures included the Satisfaction with Life Scale, Extraversion and Neuroticism Questionnaire, Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, Affectometre 2 and Optimism & Pessimism Inventory.

Validation data collected for OHQ (n=29 items) displayed satisfactory item-total correlations, as well as a satisfactory coefficients of test- retest reliability and internal consistency.

In addition, the study established convergent and divergent validity for OHQ depending upon a variety of criterion measures.

Findings of this study showed also that the psychometric data obtained from administering the short form of the instrument to a several samples of Syrian students don't meet acceptable levels.

Suggestions were made to conduct further psychometric studies upon the Arabic version of OHQ and its short form
