Abstract EN

The present article attempts to examine the concept of globalization, a western term which has recently been introduced Arabic dictionaries via translation.

The research deals with the concept through the following points: first, the emergence of this term and the historical stages it has gone through, second, its linguistic significance, third, its idiomatic significance according to some scholars.

Through its definitions, it can be noticed that they revolve on two meanings; a negative one which is is synonymous to Americanization, and a positive one which means generalizing the benefits of technology.

However, the latter has no effect which means that globalization is just another form of Americanization .Three approaches are adopted in this research: the historical approach, the descriptive approach, and the comparative approach.
