Abstract EN

This study investigates the structure of the temporal paradox in Samir Qassimi’sThe Dreamer.

In so doing, the research demonstrates that the impossibility of enacting parallelism between the story’s multidimensional temporal system and the one-dimensional temporal discourse, leads to what Gerard Genette calls confusion or distortion.

The implication is the narrator’s resort to foreshadowing and flashbacks.

Important to note, the temporal interval in one part manifests itself through two movements: slowing down narration through the scenery and stop.

In another part, narration accelerationas seen through summarization and elision.

All these temporal techniques emerge in The Dreamer by breaking the linearity of the temporal structure.

The objective of employing these techniques to highlight the aesthetic dimension in the Algerian new novelistic corpus.
