T his article attempts to shed light on the efforts of Abu Othman Al-Jahiz in dealing with the issue of translation and its problems, by presenting and discussing his view on translation, which reflects an early awareness about translation as fundamentally a linguistic is sue that is inseparable from matters of language Both the source and the target side, and by the importance of the demonstration which he considers as a unique human characteristic that achieves unders tanding and makes other understanding, Al-Jahiz was keen to link the translation with the demonstration very closely in an attempt to establish what is termed as “demonstrative translation”.
