Abstract EN

This study aims to show that one of Saussure’s contributions is paving the way for a new theory that explains the relationship between time and language.

Saussure provided a new approach that studies the impact of time on modifying and developing the language.

Thus, what Saussure has presented in the field of diachronic linguistics is a rejection for the old views in linguistics especially historical linguistics, which was dominant in that time.

His rejection for the historical linguistics was not only shown through the new approach he provided which is later called structuralism but also through providing a historical approach different from historical linguistics calling it diachronic linguistics.It surpassed historical linguistics in providing linguistic explanations and led to a methodogical change in stydying the language phenomenon
