Abstract EN

The research deals with the study of four documents – top secret - published by Dr.

Ibrahim Yazdi - former Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs (1979).

These were reports on the negotiations that took place by officials from the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Head of the National Organization for Security and Intelligence (SAVAK) on the events of the Iranian Revolution during the period of 9 September – till end of November 1978.

The above-mentioned documents were studied according to the standards applied in studying historical documents, which in return shed the light on the nature of the relationship between the US Agency (CIA) and Iranian Intelligence under the reign of Shah Muhammad Reza Pahlavi, and revealed precise and documented information from direct sources.

This information included the impact of the calls for action and information disseminated by Khomeini from France on the citizens.

Also, the information contained the influence of Khomeini on the key religious people who were divided by proponents and opponents to the Shah.

However, the proponents were afraid of expressing their opinions.

The idea of silencing Khomeini dominated the SAVAK.

The Americans proposed silencing Khomeini by diplomatic means and the pressure from the Iranian government on France.

However, the Chief of SAVAK was convinced that assassinating Khomeini by poison is the best way.

But the Shah rejected his idea, as he was worried from the consequences on the system.
