Patterns of leukemia among patients registered at Hadhramout national oncology center during 2002-2014

Leukemia is a group of malignant disorders of the hematopoietic tissues characteristically associated with increased number of primitive white cells in bone marrow and blood.

This study aims to determine the distribution and patterns of leukemia among patients registered at Hadhramout National Oncology Center (HNOC) during year 2002- 2014.

It is retrospective descriptive study, relied on data that was collected from medical records in HNOC.

All leukemia cases registered for treatment during the period from 2002 to 2014were included in this study .

The results showed that out of total 131 cases registered at the HNOC with leukemia, 74.05% cases were adults and 25.95% cases were children.

Males were affected more compared to females (61.1% vs.

38.9%).

acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) were predominant among pediatric age group (91.1%) and adults (33.0%) patients respectively.
