Population dynamics of chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus Huttuyn, 1782 )‎ on Hadhramout coast, gulf of Aden

Length-based estimates of growth parameters, mortality coefficient, and the maximum exploitation rate which generates the maximum sustainable yield of Scomber japonicus were obtained, using the FISATII (FAO/ICLARM) software.

They were found to be: Asymptotic length (L∞)=49.20 cm , growth constant (K)= 0.33 year-1, nominal age at which the length of the animal is zero (t0)= -1.09, total mortality (Z)=1.07 year-1, and maximum exploitation rate (Emax)=0.59 .

The relative yield per recruit that the stock of Scomber japonicus in Gulf of Aden is highly exploited.

So, the fishing mortality and the exploitation rate, should be reduced below the optimum value .
