Synthesis of methyl-[2-(2,6-dichloro-N-ethyl anilino)‎ phenyl] acetate starting from diclofenac sodium and confirm its structure by spectroscopic methods

Diclofenac is one of the moft NSAIDs used in the treatment of a wide range of disease conditions, due to its availability in various pharmaceutical forms, well tolerability and high efficiency as an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory agent.

However, it does shows serious side effects in the long term of treatment that could be life threatening in some cases.

Therefore, it was necessary to search for a novel, safer and more potent derivatives.

In this research, a new derivative of diclofenac was synthesized, by an alkyla-tion process of the aromatic secondary amine group in the methyl efter of diclofenac, using ethyl bromide under appropriate conditions with a good yield, and the ftructure of the new N-ethyl derivative was checked using FTIR and NMR spectroscopy.

All the spectral data correspond and indicate .to the entry of ethyl group and thus the completion of N-alkylation process
