Lingual sovereignty is central to the African postcolonial debates.

This article focuses on issues of language in postcolonial literature and theory.

Discussing the orature and the culture of Umuofia, which are represented in Things Fall Apart, I argue that sovereignty is established however the writing medium is English.

The language of the colonized Africans demonstrates a resistance act to imperialism.

To demonstrate that lingual sovereignty is not limited to the use of the native language, I studied Chinua Achebe’s novel Things Fall Apart.

This article starts by exploring the language debate aroused among African writers and postcolonial theorists and thinkers during the twentieth century.
