Effect of physical and occupational therapy program on academic skills in primary school children with intellectual disability

The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a designed physical and occupational therapy program on improving academic skills in a sample of Egyptian children with mild intellectual disabilities.

a group of twenty children whose ages ranged between (8-10 years) and suffered from mild intellectual disabilities participated in the study.

children were divided into two groups (10) children in the control group and (10) children in the experimental group.

all children completed the Stanford-Binet scale, the fifth edition to measure their intelligence and cognitive abilities, vineland for adaptive behavior test and the academic skills scale for children with mild intellectual disabilities to evaluate their reading, writing and arithmetic skills in pre, post and follow-up measurements, and the occupational therapy program for children with simple intellectual disabilities.

the results showed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group students in the pre, post and follow-up measurement of the test, reading, writing and arithmetic skills.

results also revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group students in the post and follow-up measurements.
